One local took to Facebook to warn people of the dead bird, telling them to avoid the area if they have young children and for dog walkers to pay particular attention.

On the Facebook group, the walker claimed: “Just been down the peel with my wee pals.

“Once again there is another dead swan just beside the slip path at the palace.

“Please watch in case your dogs catch it or kids see it.

“It is quite gruesome as it’s just its poor head that is missing.

“That’s 2 dead swans in as many weeks and I’ve never seen anything like that in all the years I’ve been round there.”

Locals were shocked to hear of the alleged incident.

One person said: “Oh no that’s awful, surely not been a person that’s done this?”

Cops have confirmed that they are investigating the grim find.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of the remains of a swan found near Linlithgow Loch around 10.15am on Sunday, 8 August. “Enquiries into the incident are ongoing

The SSPCA has been approached by the Scottish Sun for comment.
